Method and Message:
Placing magnetic pieces on a townscape to see how transport choices affect outcomes from a baseline of the present (fairly polluted).

Usage:
Magnets should attract all ages but with younger users may be better done by a facilitator as a group activity. Discussion may centre around the trade-off between the environment and individual choice..

Curriculum Links:
Environmental awareness. Sc KS1 2c and 5c; KS2 c-e and h. Also PHSCE Debate topical issues. Developing a healthy lifestyle at KS1 and 2.

Walking is good for you
Format: Tower

Method and message:
Magnetic words and symbols to encourage children to think about their bodies and the types of exercise that they might do.

Usage:
Single or group usage. Opportunities for discussion about obesity, diet etc.

Watch out - hazards about
Format: Tower

Method and message:
Placing magnetic hazard warning triangles on a cartoon to indicate various types of hazard be they dangerous behaviour, pollution, parked cars or whatever.

Usage:
All ages, single or group, lots of leeway for negotiation and discussion.

Wet road, icy road
Format: Box top

Method and message:
Experiment with ramp and toy car to illustrate how conditions affect stopping distances.

Usage:
Older children. Might be done as a demonstration piece.

Congestion compared
Format: Box sides

Method and message:
Children can only see one side of the box at a time. By walking round the box and remembering the “ratios” of people to road by different means of transport children realise how cars cause congestion etc.

Usage:
All ages. Can be used as a basis for discussion.

Make it safer
Format: Box top

Method and message:
Acting and guessing game delivering a variety of messages within a group situation. The clue pictures are on the box top.

Usage:
The “expert” level will appeal to older more literate children and may be done in teams.
